We started our day early, 6.48 am, and for a person like me who is not a morning person, waking up that early on a Saturday morning is too much to ask, but when it comes to a day of adventure and fun we had to reconsider.

I am sleepy because I didn’t sleep much, was too excited I couldn’t contain it. So apparently on this day I am on time, which is a first because am always late especially on casual occasions, everybody knows it and they have come to peace with it, ha ha ha a high five to myself.

A few people have arrived at Kencom and I say Hi as I get in the Van which was already waiting for us.

It’s a chilly cold morning, Nairobi is quiet and you can’t miss a few drunkards struggling to get home.

For a moment I think of how I can’t wait to get out of this polluted city that I have come to love and just get away and breathe some fresh countryside air and some freedom perhaps, freedom is such a strong word but oh well…

We wait for the African timer, (so glad it’s not me this time), as we catch up and get to know each other a little. After a few minutes, he arrives. A good day cannot be a good day until u remember to pray and thank God for life, so we pray for our journey ahead and minutes later we begin the awaited Safari.

Our safari leads to Giraffe Ark Game Lodge, courtesy of Ease My Safari. The lodge is in Nyeri County, 195 km’s from Nairobi. It is centrally located in Nyeri County and is easy access to historical landmarks in the Mount Kenya region.

It’s another hidden gem – I believe by now you know the other gem?,close to Aberdare National Park, very ideal for individuals, families, couples, and even groups who want to get away from the noisy streets and estate of the town.

If you are looking to have a visit and a game drive to the beautiful and heritage-full Aberdare National Park, no better place to think of than this.

We make a stopover at Shell in Makuyu, some of us had woken up too early to take breakfast and we buy snacks as we proceed with our journey. I cannot help but drown in thoughts and get caught up with the sunrise and the morning breeze.

The journey is quite long but soon enough we are at the magnificent Giraffe Ark Game Lodge.

We stop about 50 meters away from the gate and I cannot help but  AWW at the amazing sight of the lodge. We take pictures before we enter. Remember traveling is meant to make memories and what better way to remember the memories than have them captured in a photo. Some people are even more excited than others on arrival.

We are warmly welcomed into the lodge and as I alight, I just take a deep breath and inhale the fresh air in this Mount Kenya region. Don’t judge me, am only used to the smell of pollution and congestion in my county, but I still love it though.

So luckily for us, the weather was warm and in our favor and one could notice rays of sun threatening to come out in that time of mid-morning, it looked like the heavens heard our prayers and also wanted us to enjoy our planned day’s activities.

We take a few  selfies and as we introduce a gt to know each other, the managers who were eagerly waiting for us, take the opportunity to welcome us.

From where we had parked and were standing, the first thing we came in sight with is their swimming pool, and if one could peek through my heart or mind I was super happy, I don’t know if it’s just me but there is this good feeling I get when I jump in a warm/cold shower, it’s like all my troubles drown there. Haha.

This was not a shower but it’s pretty close right? Again don’t judge. My happy thoughts are interrupted by the manager who says we are going to start with a tour of the Lodge…Arrrgh, disappointing, I know.

We begin with a guided tour at the lodge and we are taken round to their accommodation and conference facilities.

They have 6 Deluxe,5 luxury suites,12 executive suites, 1 royal suite, 1 premier suite, Don’t worry I learned all this that day..And as we go in one by one to all of them i am mesmerized and challenged at the same time and now am torn between the Giraffe Ark Game Lodge and another place (my little secret) as my honeymoon venue.

Am totally confused but I still have more days ahead to decide and travel more and settle on the perfect place just for me.

I want to leave here forever, a girl can dream, my dreams might be valid you never know, I might probably own a place like this, nothing is impossible..ha ha

For those who are having a wedding this year and still hunting a place to do it check out this. And what’s more exciting is when you choose the Giraffe Ark as your venue they give you one of their suites as a bonus. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.

What captured my heart is Bikini Island, don’t ask why. Another secret of mine, I have too many of them.

After a tour of the lodge and seeing all the facilities, we were already hungry and it was time for lunch and you know what travel says ‘Food should be another reason to travel’ they were right. An appetizing three-course buffet awaits us.

It’s a self-service and you can have as much as you want, but before you get to the main course, we began with a starter. Some of us are not very used to the starter so they dive in straight to the main course.

At the same time, we are learning some etiquette and dining manners. I got a chance for a gentleman to pull my chair, ha ha ha, it’s been, long people. I said it! I had to.

After lunch, we were fully energized and ready for team-building activities. It was a coincidence that we all wanted to start with bicycle riding. We even raced while at it.

And then I got a chance to learn to play pool table. I actually became pretty good at it and managed to ‘beat’ the experts.

We had to remind ourselves of childhood memories and children’s activities so we swung and slide and for the babies that had joined it was more fun for them.

And then there was the giant chess and draft. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t get to learn this game well, I guess I didn’t have much interest in it. I just watched the experts do it.

Here comes my phobia people, I didn’t understand if it was the big horse, or the fear of falling while on it but I didn’t do horse riding. I couldn’t overcome that fear…ha ha probably next time I will have gained the courage to do it. Good thing is some people were more courageous than I was.

While the courageous ones were horse riding, we drank a glass of cold white wine, any day is a good day to drink some cold wine. For the shagz mondoz like us learned how to serve wine. See this is why I love traveling it helps me discover, learn and create unforgettable memories.

It was now time to get down. This was my favorite part of the day.

Lucky for us, we had a dancer who had the best moves.

By the time we were done getting down, we were already too tired, we wanted to go swimming but it was kind of late and we had a 4-hour drive back to Nairobi.

I love to learn new things every day, it helps me grow and keeps me in the know, and at the end of this trip I came out with a free mind and the travel gave me wings to my free Spirit. I also increased my social circle as I got to know people I did not know.

This was one treasured experience. It’s never a dull moment with Ease My Safari, the #BornToBeWildTeam Am looking forward to more adventures, hoping you will join us on our next and future adventures.
