Filling my heart with adventure, having stories to tell and not stuff to show; has been my ultimate inspiration for travel lately. “It’s a big and beautiful world. Most of us live and die in the same corner where we were born and never get to see any of it. I don’t want to be most of us”. Shi has created a life she loves.

Well, it’s one thing to hear about an adventure, but entirely another to go there, experience, see the environment, and appreciate the natural riches there first hand. You must be wondering where I was this time round, Ngare Ndare Forest it is. Ngare Ndare forest is located about 4-5 hours north of Nairobi – about 235km. It lies on the border of two of Northern Kenya’s counties – Laikipia and Meru, and on the border of two conservancies – Lewa and Borana. Its location provides a chance to explore the nearby areas without much effort. It is known for its longest canopy walk in EA and the azure blue pools.

It is the only indigenous forest in Kenya with an expanding canopy cover, and some of the ancient African Olive and Red Cedar trees within it are thought to be around 200 years old. The forest is a vital corridor that links the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to Mount Kenya, and one that elephants have been using for centuries. If you consider spending the night, the best way to have everything within the reach of your hand is to stay at their campsite. The campsite is easily accessible when you drive in/get dropped off by a car. If you’re not a fan of camping, you can still stay nearby in an affordable hotel, in Mt. Kenya Regency hotel, which is just 1 km from the forest.

“What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another.” — Mahatma Gandhi. Forests are the world’s air-conditioning system, the lungs of the planet and we are on the verge of switching it off.
I’m planting a tree to teach me to make the world a better place – KareyYou may not plant millions of trees but if you can take care of one single tree with love and care, that will make you great.” Let’s conserve the environment because the death of the forest is the end of our life.
