Track Lions
Did you know that you could guess how old a lion is by the color of its nose?
Here at Ol Pejeta, a few of the lions have been fitted with a radio collar to be able to track and trace them and allow them to study the lions in greater detail and allow the GPS data to determine the potential kill sites for the lion prides.
The specialized lion trackers search for their signal and when found they can identify the individual lions by recording whisker patterns, scars, tears, and other characteristics.
The data collected goes straight to the ecological monitoring department and helps them to find a solution to the challenges facing Laikipia’s Lions.
Nanyuki is the center of Kenya and is known for the equator point. As it may be hard to believe this, get to engage with an activity at the equator marker surroundings and get to see the deflection of the force that is an artifact of the earth’s rotation. After the experience, you can buy a certificate stating that you have witnessed that Nanyuki is at the equator.

Climb Mount Kenya
As a hiker, climbing Mount Kenya should definitely be on your to-do list! The things you should know before climbing this mountain rise up to 5,199 meters. Slightly lower than Mount Kilimanjaro but it provides the more off-the-beaten-path of adventure.
Mount Kenya has three summits; Batian, Neon, and point Lenana from the highest to the lowest respectively, which can be accessed through 5 routes; Sirimon, Naromoru, Burguret, and Chogoria.
If you are planning to reach the highest peak it will take you up to 5 days. Mount Kenya is approximately 180 kilometers from Nairobi and lies immediately south of the equator. The mountain can be accessed through the below gates;
Naro Moru Gate:
This is the shortest and most direct route. It is most relevant for descents as it is quite easy. It is however important to note that it has a notorious vertical bog which gets waterlogged.
Sirimon Gate:
This is one of the most famous routes to the summer and it takes like two days. It allows you to ascend steadily and gives you a better approach to the peak. This route is somewhat protected from rainfall so the track stays dry most times. It also has two campsites along the way.
Chogoria Gate:
This is a great route for both ascending and descending. The scenery is wonderful as you will be able to have great views of the waterfall which makes it worth it as it takes a little longer than the other routes.
