~ The Lake covers over 100 sq kms and has a distinctive pink and white colour formed by crystallized alkaline soda deposits.

~ The flamingos are particularly common on the lake as a result of the high temperatures which keeps the predators away during the nesting period.

~ Magadi has a variety of wildlife including giraffes, zebras, ostriches, gerenuks, gnu (wildebeests), Hyenas, and jackals. When you go towards shompole conservancy, Elephants, lions, cheetahs and buffaloes are common among many others.

~ It has a very good birdlife, particularly at certain times of the year when up to 20,000 lesser flamingos arrive to line the shores.

~ The variety of birds in Lake Magadi is made possible by the favorable climate, diverse habitats and geographical features that make it a suitable migratory route for birds.

~ The lake is endowed with a wide variety of birds including flamingos and pelicans among hundreds of other bird species.

~ It has “MEDICINAL” natural hot springs bubbling at around 35 degrees celsius providing a nice spot to relax and bath as it is believed to have healing properties to the skin. The waters however are very salty and would turn your skin whitish when you get out.

~ It’s one of the hottest places in the country and its temperature hovers in the upper 30s on most days.

~ Magadi is also the second-largest source of soda in the world, after the Salton Sea in the USA.
