Located in the narrowest part of the Great rift valley, surrounded by the Tugen hills, on the west and the Laikipia Escarpment, lies island camp Baringo, one of the best getaway locations in Kenya.

It is the second oldest tented camp in Kenya with plenty of activities that will make your camping experience memorable.

Things to do in Island Camp

 

  • Go for nature walks.

There is always a connection made, a bond when you engage in nature walks. Take a walk in the cliffs, passing through the traditional bomas where you might find scorpions and snakes under the rocks.

  • Boat excursions.

Go for boat excursions in lake Baringo. You can have a boat ride in the dawn around Ol Kokwe and Rock Gibraltar. With the help of a guide, you can be ankle to call and feed the fish eagles as you see an array of birdlife. There are crocodiles as well swimming around and hippos basking close to the shore. An experience you are most likely not to forget.

  • Bird watching.

Enjoy bird watching with an experienced birder and get to identify as many species as you can learning their interesting facts, their mode of feeding and their social life in general.

2. Visit lake Baringo.

Plan for an excursion to lake Baringo, which takes approximately 4 hours. Have some packed lunch with you as well. See the flamingos and later on go to the hot springs. You can decide to carry raw eggs and salt and boil them at the hot springs.

3. Ruko Conservancy.

The conservancy was established to protect wildlife.it has several antelope species including the impala, waterbucks. Lesser and greater kudus, and numerous bird species. The Rothschild’s giraffe were Currently the conservancy has several antelope species including Impala, waterbucks, lesser and greater Kudus and a rich diversity of bird species. The Rothschild’s giraffe, an endangered subspecies has a special attention to the conservancy as it targets to protect it from poachers

4. Lunch and Sundowners at Island Camp.

Have a simple but precious lunch at the island with various meals to choose from at an affordable price. In the evening, the camp can arrange sundowners on the lake by boat, on the rock of Gibraltar or at the lookout point down from the swimming pool or just sit and watch on your own terms.
