3 Days 2 Nights Camping Safari in Samburu National Reserve & Hiking Sacred Mount Ololokwe

Overview

Set out on a journey north through the most central part of Kenya, Isiolo. The Adventure takes you through the different central Kenya counties to the edge of Northern Kenya’s arid savannas.

The Samburu National Reserve, located on the edge of Northern Kenya’s arid savannahs is known for its common game like lions, elephants, and cheetah.

Samburu Special Five among them Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope, and Somali ostrich can be found here among an abundant birdlife with over 450 species recorded. Wild dog sightings are also a common attraction to this unique protected area.

The park’s landscape is very photogenic. The river Ewaso Ngiro is the heart of the park and contrasts against the dry and arid desert-like soil that shines bright red under the African sun.

The reserve is also home to ‘Kamunyak’ the miracle lioness that adopted the baby oryx is a resident in the reserve whose story was told in the book and movie, “Born Free”.

Guests can visit the Samburu Tribe who, nomadic pastoralists like the Masai,  move from one place to another following pattern of rainfall in search of fresh pasture and water for their livestock.

The Samburu Tribe are easily identifiable as they wear bright and colorful attire and the women adorn themselves in beaded necklaces and jewelry.
